HELLO PACE FAMILY

Hi Everyone,

Sorry it has taken me so long to post...I am still getting used to this! :)

I have enjoyed all the pictures...the zip line looks like so much fun!

Just wanted to update you on some funny events here in Australia:

- Cory is required to take Japanese in school. He finds it interesting, though he doesn't care for the teacher much. They looked up Japanese word for 'underwear'. Cory came home in hysterics laughing about the translation...and pronunciation in Japanese. It is not appropriate for your little ears, so if you are interested I'll let you look it up on your own! :)

- Speaking of school, Steven has officially started this week. All seems to be going well. He was accepted into a research laboratory. He will be working on infectious disease diagnostics. He seems excited about the professor and the research topic...anything that makes him happy makes me happy! :)

- Damn and Hell are NOT swear words here. Cory's friend, Cameron, was here last night. They were playing Xbox and Cameron kept saying Damn It over and over again. Steven and I were laughing. It is also humorous to hear Hell and Damn coming from the podium at Church on Sundays!

- Also, if you ever come visit us...don't ever use the word 'crap'. Apparently, that is one of the very worse swear words you can say here!

- I miss my Dr. Pepper!! Anyone want to send me some?! J/K...sort of. They don't have fountain drinks here...or any Dr. Pepper (they don't make it in Australia apparently). I have realized it is the only soda I like...

- Kristi (me) drove this week! I had to drive Cory to school by myself and pick him up because Steven was at the University. I only almost got us killed twice! :) And, Cory only screamed once! :) Cory congratulated me though! :)

- They don't have stick deodorant here...no joke...only roll on and spray. I think I will be having my mom send me a care box with a few things! :)

We love you and miss you all! It was fun to chat with Kim on Skype the other night...and to see Mom and Dad Pace's BEAUTIFUL faces often! We love you...

Kristi

How's it going?

Well, Cory has started school and I sort of start on Monday. Cory is in year 6 and this is his uniform. It is not particularly liked in the family but this set is not too bad. You should see how short their shorts are...pretty funny. He likes his teacher and has made some friends. He likes to email so if you email him he will email back (antideath1@hotmail.com).

We are on skype and if you are too and have a name then please post it here so we can chat...or name is (steven.pace1). We got a web cam so we can stream video and my parents love it. You feel like you are in the room with the person.

Everyone seems to be doing well and glad you all seem to be enjoying the blog...

4th of July

For 4th of July we got together at our house and had a pool party. It was a lot of fun. Jessi, Tom and Jim raced in the pool. Tom won most of the time an he really liked that. Kayla fell asleep in her boat at the pool and it was really cute. Then we enjoyed carne asada and hung out. We had a great time and only wished everyone could have been there.

Orphanage and Artist

These are a couple of our very memorable days. Last week we went to an orphanage that USD has "adopted". We were able to play with some of the 120 children for the afternoon. One boy in particular, was interested in Dad's umbrella. He spent a good hour opening it and shutting it. Each time it opened, he would just squeal. It was a lot of fun. If we could take a couple of them home, it would have been that boy and then this one who was a miniature five year old. He is sitting atop a stack of high chair trays.

Next, we have been able to befriend an interesting artist, Clemente Orazco. His grandfather was Jose Clemente Orazco, a prominent Mexican muralist. His murals are found in many government buildings and tend to depict the oppression of the Mexican people. Clemente, showed us around downtown Guadalajara and took us to a museum that his family had some influence in. The picture is of the two of us with Clemente. He then took us back to his studio/home. I was amazed by it's simplicity. He only used one light bulb and had only a small fridge. He said his electricity bill was only five dollars every two months!!

Belated

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Annie. WE are all so glad you are part of the family. Sorry I know I am slow but in my defense we dont have internet. First time I have been on in a few days.

Happy Birthday Annie

Ellie, Jim and I wanted to say happy birthday Annie. Ellie got all dressed up for the occasion and here is the picture. She did her own hair. After we took her out of the bath she pulled her hair straight up like this. Now I know naming her Jessica was the perfect choice. Annie, we love you and are very happy that Tom married you. We hope that you have a great birthday.

Picture Update From Mexico

This is the village that Dad and I walked to in order to see the church which was destroyed by a volcano. The next day, we traveled to a small fishing island on a well-worn boat. The fishermen use butterfly nets to catch small, sardine-like fish. Then we walked up to the top of the island, through a lot of shops and got to a monument. We climbed to the top of the fist and squeezed our heads out of a small hole so that we could look out. I think the view was worth it. There were a lot of murals inside depicting the historical struggles of the Mexican people, but I was too worried about my own struggle to climb the stairs to appreciate them. It reminded me of a trip to Provincetown.......We are having a great time and hope this finds you ALL well. Love, Mom and Dad
